--La Verne 4th of July Parade

Before you enter the Parade website, I wanted to step onto my soapbox for a moment...

Tim and I organize this event at our own expense, and with the efforts and contributions of some friends and local businesses. We do not require you to pay anything to participate in this exhibition of patriotism.

HOWEVER, in the last two years of the event I have been accepting donations for Operation Family Fund. This is an organization that does not pay its people. Its people cover their own costs. 100% of the money donated to this organization goes to help troops injured in combat, their families and/or the families of those K.I.A. For those of you that listen to Dr. Laura Schlessinger, this is the ONE organization that she supports in that category. From the 65 participants in 2006 and 225 participants in 2007 we have raised a little more than $300 for Operation Family Fund. Granted, I have not pushed it heavily, but this is an abysmal level of support for our heroes.

Again, we will not be charging anyone anything to participate in the 2008 parade. But, please consider making a contribution at this year's event.
